Mudra for Bronchial Diseases for Asthma Patients

Air is the vital force of life. We breathe in air and we exhale it out. When we breathe in sufficient amount or air it gives us oxygen which helps to give life and good functioning of body cells. Vice versa insufficient oxygen will hamper normal functioning of cells and thereby affect one’s hormones.

This insufficient supply of oxygen leads to mood swings, depression, sleeplessness, inferiority complex, sexual problems, isolation, sadness and failure all over in life thereby surrounding the person with a negative aura.

To cope with this, we can use the bronchial mudra. This mudra not only regulates oxygen intake but is also useful in acute attacks of bronchial asthma (and not cardiac asthma).

Technique:

Place the little finger at the base of the thumb, the ring finger on the upper thumb joint, and the middle finger on the pad of the thumb. Extend the index finger.

During an acute attack of asthma before patient is taken to hospital for nebulization with deriphyline and dexamethasone, one can make the patient to perform this mudra which helps in dilatation of the bronchial tube thereby naturally combating an attack of asthma. This could prove to be life saving.

Asthma Mudra to avoid Recurrence of Acute Attacks

After performing the Bronchial Mudra to ease acute attacks, asthma patients will also find it useful to perform the ‘asthma mudra’ as a long term treatment for avoiding the recurrence of acute attacks of asthma.

Technique for asthma mudra:

Press together finger nails of the middle fingers and keep others fingers extended.
This mudra has to be practiced 4-5 times a day for at least 7-10 minutes.

There are certain facts which an asthma patient should keep in mind. They are listed below:
During cold weather one should never breathe through their mouth because the bronchial tubes will become inflamed and congested

Try not to be in a hurry because every incidence of stress activates the adrenal glands which liberate adrenaline which in turn promotes congestion and constriction of bronchial tubes.
Avoid smoking

Do Pranayam (Breathing Exercise) on a daily basis

 ANGUSHTHA MUDRA

How & When: Perform this Mudra by interlocking the fingers of both the hands in such way so that the little finger of the left hand is the down most and the right hand thumb stands straight up, envelope the right hand thumb with the left hand index finger and thumb to join the tips at the back of the right hand palm. Hold the palms together tightly. One should perform this Mudra by keeping the back straight either in Padmasan or Sukhasan. One may also sit on the chair in case of difficulties. Hold the hands in front of the chest with hands exerting a little pressure against each other. One may perform this Mudra as a therapy daily for time duration one feels comfortable. One should not perform it full stomach.

Caution:
One must discontinue the Mudra in case of dizziness, uneasiness or nausea. People with acidity must observe the reaction and if feels more heart burning, they should discontinue doing it. One must not practice this Mudra any longer after you get the result you are seeking.

Benefits:

a) It is an excellent Mudra to break the phlegm and relieve a person of frequent coughs and colds.
b) It also works great when the temperature suddenly falls down and one shivers of cold. Practicing this Mudra will generate heat in the body and will provide the necessary warmth.
c) It also relieves the bronchial spasms and calms down the breath.
d) It is also fruitful if practiced by person suffering from bronchitis, lung cancer or asthma.
e) It activates the digestive fire by activating the AGNI which in turn boosts the metabolic rate of the body in case of sluggish digestion.
f) It also helps in case of low blood pressure and mild paralytic attack, sinusitis etc.
